Well another long absence - you know, part of the reason I don't post more often is that every time I start to do so I realize that I have - yet again-forgotten my user name and password - you would think I'd write it down....?
Anyway, this summer I will turn 51 and I've decided that I need to reinvent my life. Seriously. I'm working 40ish hours a week at a job that makes me unhappy -then I don't have the energy to do the job that makes me happy - besides - I have this whole "art by the side of the road' fantasy (selling our creations - me - Beth, beer and other attitudinal adjustment - an awning, lawn chairs and a mini-wini in whatever location we happen to be in!) going and I can't imagine it will be any easier to begin doing that at 80...
The thing is - how do you really go about reinventing your life? (let me add...without sufficient funds...) It's not as if you can just do it -snap your fingers and TADA - new life. And there are many things that I wouldn't change, my marriage being right up there...
so- any thoughts...?

Return from Never-Land
Well, I've been away for awhile. I knew when I started that keeping this up was going to be a challenge!
A LOT has happened since my last post...My dog died, I turned 50 and celebrated with Beth, more than a friend, more than a sister - who also turned 50 - we took a 9 day road trip and had the best time! Harry and I have moved to a new house - I actually have an office and creative space now - We have two new dogs -
Our Sweet Faced Taffy...
Taffy - my yellow lab - was the last gift my father gave me before he passed away. Oh, we loved that dog, for herself silly sweet-face that she was and because she was a connection to him. Loosing her was doubly awful. She was only 11 but while she was here she had a great time, if I went a place she could go - she did - her favorite place was in the back of our truck or sleeping with her head on either my or Harry's feet. We miss her every day...
Sheesh....

Not long after she died, I started dreaming about a dog named Stanley - but read on...that's another story!
Celebrating Friendship at 50..
The older I get the more I appreciate my women friends. I think this is true of most of us. Beth has been in my life pretty much ALL of my life. When we were in 3rd grade we were in Girl Scouts together and played "wild horses" on the playground during recess. We discovered boys together, learned to use make-up, discovered Rock n Roll, drooled over Robert Plant, she was there when my kids were born, stood up with me for both marriages and next to me whe
n my father died. When we are together there is a dance that we do without need for thought or discussion, we function together like two halves of one whole and the longer I live the more I Understand what an amazing gift she is in my life. So this year we both turned 50 - our birthdays are 8 days apart, mine July 18 and hers the 26th. I flew to Reno (where she lives and we grew up) on the 17th and we drove from there to the Olympic Peninsula camping all the way. Neither of us wanted to come home and we have decided, should either of us win the lottery, we will need to buy a home "large enough for the tribe" on Whidbey Island - or there-abouts. This is Beth writing wishes in the sand at Whidbey.
Stan & Ollie....

Stan & Ollie....
So not long after Taffy died I started dreaming about a terrier mix - white with
spots named Stanley - he showed up in my dreams, just hanging out with us and smiling. After awhile I stared watching for him because it became clear to me that he would be in my life. In the meantime, my friend Lori's chocolate lab had pups and she asked if we'd like one...Since Stanley didn't show up before my trip, I kept expecting him to while we were traveling - wondering how in the heck I'd get him home. A week after I returned I experienced this undeniable urge to go to the humane society in Sedona. I had described Stanley so well that Harry - who saw him 1st - recognized him immediately. All I could do is cry!

We had a Stanley so we needed an Ollie and he came home two weeks later. Sometimes I think that Ollie is more Stanley's dog than he is ours - they are inseparable!
oooh - Gray's Anatomy is on! More next time!
until then....Be Joyful!

Last spring I was working part-time at the Bookstore and Gift Corner here in Cottonwood (still do-one Saturday a month) If I can't work in a Papercraft-Store a used and new bookstore is the next best thing!
Anyway - this wonderful little vintage book about friendships came in from an estate sale and I immediately put it aside for my friend Beth. She and I turn 50 this summer and have been best friends since a Girl Scout camping trip the year we turned 8. I loved this adorable little book about friendship and thought it would make a great gift for her. The artwork is so charming I have just been itching to use some of the illustrations in a project, I finally decided to decoupage a presentation box in keeping with the unsophisticated child-like feel of the book. Scanners are wonderful things aren't they?
This project was my first experience with using products from my new line - Earth Safe Finishes. I used both their decoupage medium and their acrylic varnish and I must say I am delighted...and impressed. Both are easy to use, clean up was a breeze and the final project has a wonderful satiny feel. Best of all? They are environmentally friendly with no VOC's Safe even for the most sensitive users.

What you ask, is a VOC? They are the solvents used in paints and can include formaldehyde, benzene, lead, cadmium, chromium and others. These are the chemicals that 'gas out' when your mediums are drying and can cause asthma and kidney and liver ailments for starters
I'll be using more of the Earth Safe products and posting the projects here in coming weeks...Can't wait to use their Gel Mediums!
